A different kind of Gong alternative.

Not a smaller Gong. A different tool, for a different problem.

Gong is conversation intelligence for enterprise sales orgs running a formal coaching and forecasting cadence. Runlight is pre-call prep and contact intelligence for everyone whose problem is walking into calls underprepared. The two tools are adjacent, not interchangeable. This page is for people who've realized Gong isn't the answer to the problem they actually have.

The mistake people make searching for a Gong alternative.

The instinct is to look for a feature-for-feature replacement at a lower price: the same scorecards, the same deal intelligence, the same coaching clips, just scaled down. Most of the "gong alternative" roundups on Google are that list.

If you're a forty-rep sales org already running Gong's coaching cadence and the price is the only thing pushing you to look, a smaller Gong is the right search. That's not what Runlight is.

If you're anyone else (a founder running early sales, a small AE team, a CS group preparing for renewal calls, a consulting practice heading into a discovery meeting), the problem isn't that Gong costs too much. It's that Gong is the wrong shape. You don't need conversation intelligence across a pipeline. You need to walk into the next call already knowing what was said on the last one.

That's what Runlight is for.

I.
What Runlight actually does

Pre-call prep, rebuilt after every call.

Runlight records your meetings, but recording is just the input. The output is a living briefing on every person you talk to, rewritten after every conversation and ready before the next one.

One page per person
The briefing is the product.

Every contact you meet with has a single page: what you've discussed, what was decided, what you promised, what's still open. Rebuilt after every recorded call, current before the next one starts.

Context on arrival
Prep surfaces itself.

Runlight's home view shows today's calls ordered by start time, each with the last briefing already loaded. You don't remember to prep. The prep is already there.

Your fields, not ours
Custom extraction per org.

Deal stage, candidate score, research interest, product feedback. Define the fields your team cares about once; Runlight extracts them from every call automatically.

II.
When to pick which

The honest decision matrix. Pick the right tool.

Not a feature-parity table. A genuine guide to which tool solves which problem. Sometimes that's Gong. Sometimes it's Runlight. Occasionally it's both.

Pick Gong when
Pick Runlight when
You have a formal sales coaching program across 20+ reps
You walk into most calls without prep and want the prep automated
You forecast deals in Salesforce and need opportunity-level signal
You meet the same people repeatedly and forget what was said
You need scorecards, call annotations, and rep-vs-rep benchmarks
You want a single page per contact that rewrites itself
Your InfoSec team requires SOC 2, ISO, HIPAA, custom residency
You want to connect your calendar today and be running by lunch
Your GTM is process-heavy and revenue-ops-led
Your GTM is founder-led or spread across sales, CS, and recruiting

If you recognized yourself in the right column for most rows, Runlight is the Gong alternative you were actually searching for.

III.
Who it's built for

Startups and small teams, specifically.

Runlight is designed for teams where every call is high-stakes and nobody has time to do prep manually. That looks like a few distinct buyer profiles.

Founder-led sales
The founder is closing every deal.

Before product-market fit, the CEO runs every first call. Runlight means the founder stops rediscovering the same prospect each week and walks into every follow-up with the right context already loaded.

Small AE and CS teams
Two to twenty reps, high touch.

Every call with a customer or prospect matters. Runlight gives each rep a living briefing per contact, so the handoff between call one and call three feels continuous instead of cold.

Consulting and services
Client memory across engagements.

Discovery interviews, project updates, quarterly reviews. Every client has a page that rewrites itself. Walk into the next meeting without re-reading three months of notes.

Questions people ask

Before you sign in.

  • No, and we don't pretend to be. Gong is conversation intelligence built for enterprise sales orgs: rep coaching at scale, deal forecasting tied to Salesforce opportunities, scorecards, manager-led call review. Runlight is pre-call prep and contact intelligence: a living briefing per person, rebuilt after every recorded conversation, so the next call starts prepared. If you specifically need the Gong workflow, Runlight isn't the right tool. If you need the problem Runlight solves, no discounted Gong will get you there.

  • Sales organizations with 20+ reps running a formal coaching program, revenue ops teams forecasting a committed number in Salesforce, and any org where InfoSec requires full enterprise compliance (SOC 2, ISO, HIPAA, custom data residency). Gong is the right tool for those problems and will be for a while. We aren't trying to displace that use case.

  • Founders running early sales, AE and CS teams of 2 to 20 people, consulting and services practices, recruiters doing candidate screens, anyone whose core problem is "I walk into calls without knowing what was said last time." Runlight handles that problem directly with a per-contact briefing that rewrites itself after every recorded meeting. Cost and setup simplicity matter too, but they're not the primary reason to pick it.

  • Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. A recording bot joins every call with one of those links on your Google Calendar, transcribes the conversation, extracts action items, and rewrites the briefing on every attendee. Dialer-native recording (Outreach, SalesLoft, Dialpad) is not supported today; Gong still wins there.

  • Yes, and for some teams that's the right answer. Gong handles the aggregate pipeline view and coaching program; Runlight handles the next-call prep layer on top. Because Runlight exports everything via a read-only JSON API, you can pipe its briefings into whatever system already sees your Gong data. They don't conflict.

  • Runlight is free during the beta. Post-beta pricing is being designed for teams of 2 to 20 seats, without seat minimums or annual commitments to start. We'll be transparent about pricing when it's set, which is how we think pricing should be handled regardless of what tier of tool you are.

  • Yes. Every meeting transcript, summary, contact briefing, and custom field is available via the read-only JSON API. There's no lock-in. Starting on Runlight during your early years and moving to Gong once you're an enterprise sales org is a sensible path. We'd rather you be on the right tool for your stage than keep you on the wrong one.
